5 STEPS TO STAY SAFE ON THE ROAD:
Step 1: Stay Sober
Drinking affects your driving ability'. The legally allowed BAC {blood alcohol content) for full v. licence holders in Australia is 0.05 g/dl, but estimating your BAC based on the number of standard drinks you have had is often inaccurate. Many drinks come in non-standard sizes, and BAC Can vary according to gender, weight, or other individual CharaCteristics.

Step 2: Slow Down
Keep to the speed limits - they are in place for a reason. Speeding increases the likeli-hood of a crash, while slowing down saves lives. Also. speeding only saves you a little time: an a 10km journey, you would save. seconds by increasing your average speed from 60km/h to 65km/h. but double your chances of being involve, in a oar crash.

Step 3: Take Breaks Make sure to take reg,lar breaks from driving in order to stay alert. Fatigue becomes 4001 a risk factor in all trips that occur during normal sleep times, or in the case of previous sleep deprivation - especially if you are taking medication or driving alone.

Step 4: Focus on the Road Driving requires all of your attention. so steer clear of anything that might distract you A00111 from what, happening on the road ahead of you. One in ten accidents on nubile roads is related to distraction, such as using a mobile phone, eating and drinking, or adjusting your OAS while driving.

Step 5: Buckle Up
Wearing a seat belt doubles your chances of surviving a serious crash. so always buckle 400 up as soon as you get in the car - this goes for the driver and also far passengers in front and rear seats! Don think you only have to wear a seat belt when you travel very fast: a crash at 40km/h is like falling frorn a two-storey building onto concrete.
